Ministry of Tourism and Culture Press release Vice President of Mauritius in Seychelles for Festival Kreol 2013 Agnes Ohsan Bellepeau, the Mauritian Vice President is in Seychelles for 28th edition of Festival Kreol which will be officially opened tonight the 25th October. The mid-ocean islands of the Seychelles are witnessing for the first time such a high Mauritian government dignitary who will be the guest of honour of Festival Kreol. Agnes Ohsan Bellepeau, the first woman to hold the position of Vice president in Mauritius is heading a strong delegation from Mauritius and Rodrigues who have also arrived in Victoria, the Creole Capital of the world to showcase their artistic talents in this 2013 edition of Festival Kreol. “ I am so happy to be invited in Seychelles for the Festival. I visited the Island years back and it’s the first time that I come for Festival Kreol. It’s a great pleasure for me to be here and I am looking forward for the festival,’’ said Agnes Ohsan Bellepeau in a short interview upon her arrival at Seychelles International airport. As the Air Seychelles plane landed at Seychelles International Airport the Seychelles Vice President, Danny Faure accompanied by Alain St.Ange, the Seychelles Minister for Tourism and Culture and Mr Nirmal Shah, the Honorary Consul for the Republic of Mauritius welcomed Mrs Bellepeau and her delegation. Mauritius and Rodrigues have always played an active role in the annual Festival Kreol that is staged in the Seychelles, and over the years the number of their delegations converging to Seychelles Islands for Festival Kreol had grown in strength. The Rodrigues Commissioner responsible for Culture is also in the delegation being represented in the 28th Edition of Festival Kreol with a nine member delegation. “Rodrigues Island is overwhelmed to be part of this great manifestation. Seychelles and Rodrigues share common cultural bonds and a Creole way of life. We’re here to showcase our culture, cuisine and we will contribute in our own special way in this cultural event because Rodrigues Island puts a lot emphasis on the role of Culture within its economy. We believe that our presence in Seychelles will be beneficial for our Island future.’’ Agnes Ohsan Bellepeau started her career in politics in 1995 as a member of National Assembly and was elected Vice President of Mauritius in 2010. It is her first official visit in Seychelles.
