Minute of SUP: Paddle Length Which size paddle length is a common discussion for many paddlers! Their are a ton of variables see partial list. Torso length Arm length Type of technique Water conditions ( flat/ waves/ racing/ river etc..) Board stand height Board deck ramp angle Shoulder joint and shoulder girdle mobility Ankle mobility Hip mobility Soft tissue extensibility and flexibility Posture and stance All of these must be factored in and evaluated when trying to determine the correct length. If the paddle length is to long it will lock up the shoulder and hips and impede the rotational component of your stroke.
