After some discussion, the topic will be tabled until the next CBA meeting. Apple Fest Location Discussion was encouraged regarding the need to change the location of AppleFest from downtown to the City Park. The City of Covington would like to see it moved to the park, citing the lack of adequate electricity and parking. Earl noted that there would be additional booth space available at the park. The advantages of moving to the Park include: No expense for Porta Potties No expense for custodians at the Courthouse Additional Electricity Additional Parking The City would not have to move furniture from the Park Soccer parents might visit between matches Vendors could park closer and not have to unload totally Could have entertainment on Friday night Earl indicated there could be a horse and carriage running continuously between Downtown and the Park to promote those businesses that want to participate. Several businesses, however, do not participate or belong, whereas 25 years ago when AppleFest started the square was full of businesses. John Shambach reviewed the layout that Earl had made of the Park. There was discussion of whether there would actually be more booth space available. The Saturday of AppleFest is a day that the Soccer League will be playing, so the park will be full of those additional cars. Traffic flow could also become a concern. The question was asked about moving or cancelling soccer for that weekend and the consensus was that would not be possible. Patty Brewer indicated that Fountain Trust sponsors the programs and would not want to move to the Park because of the additional cost to change the programs. Amy asked if perhaps the City would blacktop the old Faust & Frey parking lot so there would be additional space to use Downtown. There is concern over whether moving the Car Show would increase the number of booths we could sell. A suggestion was made to think about the parking lot beside Dollar General instead of lining the street with the participants. Amy indicated that in years past they have tried extending the line of cars down 4th street, but many residents do not want their homes blocked. Dale asked the question where the goal was to Grow AppleFest or simply exist. John Shambach and Richard Holmes addressed the fact that there can only be as many booth spaces so as are available. Earl indicated that he had several late shows that wanted space, so he found a way to accommodate so that the CBA could made additional money. The suggestion was made to raise the cost of renting a space if it is not paid for by the deadline to deter people showing up late and causing the confusion and frustration of having to create booth space for those that did not commit themselves. Carol Freese suggested talking to someone about using the Courthouse lawn for additional booth space like the Art Fest does. A ballot vote was taken of those in attendance whether to stay Downtown or move to the City Park. Another vote is to be taken at the evening meeting before a decision can be made. With no other business to address, the meeting adjourned. Next Meeting: Tuesday, February 3rd, at Snoddys, at noon.
