Minutes of Kiang Vs. Baddibu Joking Relationship (Sanawuya) First Meeting The meeting was held at Tallingding Bantaba Nursery School on 2nd August, 2014. It served as the first ever meeting for the Kiang Vs. Badibu Joking Relationship. As we have been interacting mainly on the internet Facebook group page, suggestions came for us to launch the Group and make it formal where our interactions will not only stop at making jokes and sharing ideas on the net but also establishing a formal group where all the members (if possible) can physically come together to socialise, share ideas and put together development projects that will benefit the members and our communities. The development issues will range from solidifying the social relationship between Kiang and Baddibu and also within either of the two. Through that socialisation we can think of development issues for the sustainability of this Joking relationship and participate in bringing projects that will enhance the livelihood of the people within the two Joking regions. We wish to safeguard the long standing joking relationship that we found our great grandparents upholding to. This is why this first ever meeting was called to serve as a convergence of members that are in the Kiang Vs. Baddibu Joking Relationship (Sanawuya) and discuss issues as highlighted above. Some of the Agenda Points were:- - Introduction of Members - Statement By Ebrima Drammeh the creator of the group page - The importance of the Kiang – Baddibu Joking Relationship - Activities - Selection of Ad-hoc Committee - Any Other Discussion The meeting was chaired by Lamin Darboe As for the first agenda item each and everyone present in the meeting introduced themselves by their names and villages (Badibubka or Kianka). After the introductions, Ebrima Drammeh was given the floor to make a statement. He explained how he came about creating the group page as it is an extension of the already existing Joking Relationship we found our elders enjoying. The only difference is that this one is shared on a technological tool (internet) and instead of the Sanawuya only existing when we physically meet; this one makes it livelier by sharing jokes from every part of the world. He said he was not sure it will turn out to be a big hit like it is as he used to beg for contributions on the page when he first established it. But now he is sure that even if he is absent, in every minute of his absence from the page it is always active. He is now overwhelmed by the number of members we have in the page as we are approaching three thousand. Ebrima called on all Baddibunkas and Kiangkas to join the page. He said every time he logged into his account there is always new members wanting to join. He therefore urged all members to responsibly use the page and abide by the principles of sanawuya. On his interventions the chair of the meeting Lamin Darboe commended Ebrima for the beautiful foresight. Sanawuya is something we have found or people doing and it is going well for the people of our two regions. Therefore sustaining that is something everyone of us will be proud of. Some of us do not even know the history behind the Sanawuya but we are sure that it was born out of great necessity Lamin alluded. We know that because of the Sanawuya unity is maintained and relationships become even stronger. We have found Sanawuya existing so is it to stay and what we are doing is a step in the right direction. The fact that we are doing this first meeting is making history as we can one day say we were part of the first people to embrace this association when it gets successful in the future. Therefore Lamin urged all the members not to relent in their participation and call on other to join in realising the aspirations of this group (Sanawuya). All the speakers in the meeting alluded to the importance of sanawuya. They all thank Ebrima for the good job and urged members to use the page for the essence of what it is created for. We should use it to strengthen our ties and not to make anyone sad or even make other members run away from the page. On the type of activities we may embark on so many suggestions came from the floor. Since the association is to make the existing ties get stronger, we should do some socio-cultural activities that will make us unite and safeguard our existing relationship. By so doing we will be embarking on fund raising activities. These fund raisers will make the association sustainable and run our activities and projects to meet our aims and objectives which are centred on social and cultural development. The fund raisers will involve organising events as may be as may be appropriate (Sports, Festivals, Product Marketing like T-shirts, e.t.c) Details of the activities and programs will be elaborated when a larger consensus is made and things get formalised. An ad-hoc committee was selected to spearhead thing before a much larger group is attained to discuss and decide on our operations. As such only three Man committee is selected for the time being (Chairperson to the Committee, Secretary to the committee and Treasurer). There will be need to increase the member of the committee in the subsequent meetings and as our operations may demand. The action points of the meetings are agreed as follows:- - Ebrima Drammeh should draft the rules abiding members on the use of the Group page and share with a few members before uploading it to serve as the rules for very member in the Kiang Vs Baddibu Joking relationship (Sanawuya) Facebook group page. The rules should entails issues such as- no abusive post, no post that will harm the feeling of other members, no politically affiliated posts or comments and no posts or comments that will disunite members and even make others stop using the page. As at now the measure will include reporting any abusive post or comments to the administration of the page and these posts or comments maybe deleted by the admin if they are not rectified by the one who post them. - Since we are getting formal and our operations and activities needed to be enhanced and sustainable, the meeting suggest starting to pay a membership fee of twenty five dalasis (D25:00) for a start for every member and monthly subscriptions will be discussed later on. The payment of this D25:00 is due on our next meeting proposed on Saturday, the 30th August, 2014 at Tallinding Bantaba Nursery School at 3:30PM. - All members are tasked to think of suggestions and activities that they think can make us active and viably operational and post their suggestion on the page prior to the next meeting. - All members should continue to sensitise other native of Kiang and Baddibu who are not on the page and those of us who are not actively involved to come forward and be part of the good things we want to establish as any suggestion from them will help in realising the objectives of this group. We know there are lot of experience people who are good in group (association) management, therefore the earlier they come forward and share their experiences the better it will be for us to see a clear path on the way we will take. On this regard the meeting was closed with a closing remark from a member and in her statement she urged the female members to encourage their fellows to come and participate as anything the women uphold is bound to be successful. She thanked everyone for make it to the meeting. Thank you.
