Mireles Murder Trial resumes today in 4+ hours. Perhaps the hardest decision an atty has to make is Do we put the defendant on the stand? Law enforcement has been licking their chops over this for a year. The apt and talented prosecution team has been devouring defendants since Lawrence was in diapers. My friend Crim Courts of Appeals Justice Cathy Cochran who many would agree is the top criminal mind on the highest criminal court in Texas told me at lunch last year. It is almost never a good idea to let a defendant testify A major consideration is Are we ahead at this point? or Do we need to satisfy the jurys need for answers? ( I wish we couid just ask the jury Hey guys have you heard enough or is Lawrence necessary? LOL) Its like the 9th inning of a final world series game- do we put him in? The police have said they would like 99 years. Lawrences mom wants to know Will my son testify? I will consult with Gabi S. Canales and Lawrence and we will go with our gut. I wonder if Gabi enjoys this more than being State Representative.
