Kathryn Patterson, Founder of Body Sugaring Australia and Creator of the SMOOTHER body sugaring method opens up about the story behind the SMOOTHER empire. Q: Whats with the SMOOTHER name? Why SMOOTHER? A: I wanted to come up with a way to ensure therapists would retain all the information they learnt in their training with us and when I thought about all the different aspects of what we as a company were trying to achieve; SMOOTHER just made sense. This acronym accounts for all the components that make up our technique and body sugaring philosophy and stands for; Sanitation Medical considerations Organisation of the therapist Organisation of the treatment room Technique Homecare Education Rebooking Salons love the acronym our methodology is based on because it addresses all aspects of our technique but also the all important task of implementing our body sugaring method in their salon. Its one thing to bring a new innovation into your salon and quite another to make it the successful buzz treatment that brings clients streaming through the door. Marketing and client education are a big part of that process and our education process recognises that. Q: So apart from a great training philosophy that has a clever acronym for therapists to remember it are there any other stand out differences Body Sugaring Australias SMOOTHER method brings to the existing body sugaring industry? A: Oh gosh yes! Weve invested heavily in research and development in all aspects of our brand and are really excited about bringing something fresh and innovative to the professional hair removal industry! Some of the biggest differences include: 1. Clients and therapists prefer our method because it is WAY less invasive. Our methodology means when youre down the business end of things you aren t using your hand to sugar someones HOO-HA. When we conducted our market research which included both therapists, salon owners and their clients we discovered, funnily enough, that people LOVED the less painful aspects of sugaring and the super smoother feel but no one wanted somebody elses hand down there. Enough said really. 2. Our re-usable SMOOTHER applicators are ergonomically designed. With all hand methods, a therapists technique is only as good as the level of fatigue in their hand, wrist and arm. Our methodology ensures salon owners are protected from expensive workers compensation claims and therapists can provide a continually high level of service to their sugaring clients all day everyday. 3. Much less product wastage. With hand methods the gloves tend to break and when this happens therapists are not able to continue using the sugar paste they are holding in that hand but are forced to bin the product as it becomes unusable. 4. Much more hygienic. As mentioned above; hand methods lend to a higher level of gloves breaking and when you are sugaring someone with a curious looking rash or when blood spots appear as they often do; this method can lead to a much higher risk of exposure to something nasty. Hand methods take much longer to master because the sugar paste is consistently being warmed by both the therapists body heat and the clients. This eventually causes the paste to become too fluid and fall apart and leads to some very embarrassing golden syrup moments! With our SMOOTHER method the paste gets time to rest between each application making it much more unlikely for a golden syrup moment to occur and far easier to master the technique. Being easier to learn means less time out of the salon too. Few salon owners can afford for themselves or their staff to be out of the salon for more than one day to master a new concept. We recognise that closing the doors to a salon for training purposes can increase the cost of the course into the $1000s so we needed to create a method that was easier and faster to learn than all the other methods on the market before we came along. 6.
