‘Mirwaiz warns Pak, India against escalation in tension: Srinagar, August 26 (Sna): In occupied Kashmir, the Chairman of All Parties Hurriyet Conference, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has expressed his concern that the escalation of prevailing tension along the Line of Control in Kashmir would endanger not only the lives of thousands of Kashmiri civilians but would also derail India and Pakistan from the path towards peace. Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in a letter addressed to the Prime Ministers of Pakistan and India, said that the worsening in the situation would benefit none except for those who did not want peace to prevail in the region. He criticized the hawkish Indian media and politicians for calling for suspension of peace efforts between the two countries. The Mirwaiz feared that abandoning the path of dialogue in response to their calls would lay the foundation for a future war and a potential nuclear catastrophe. The APHC Chairman called upon Islamabad and New Delhi to make a new beginning towards a peaceful settlement of the Kashmir dispute by initiating a renewed peace process on Kashmir. Later, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq visited Chhatabal area of Srinagar and expressed solidarity with the family members of a 22-year old youth, Farooq Azam Khan who was killed by Indian police recently. APHC leader, Javed Ahmad Mir led a protest demonstration at Chattabal in Srinagar against the killing of a Kashmiri youth, Farooq Azam Khan by Indian police. Mukhtar Ahmad Waza, Zafar Akbar Butt, Imtiyaz Ahmad Reshi and Ghulam Ahmad Parray condemned the brutal killing of the youth. The Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front Chairman, Muhammad Yasin Malik in a statement in Srinagar expressed serious concern over forced eviction of Kashmiri Muslim shopkeepers by Indian authorities in the Leh region. The General Secretary of the Jamaat- e-Islami of occupied Kashmir, Dr Abdul Hamid Fayaz, addressing a function at Narbal Cricket Ground in Badgam said that Kashmir was an international dispute, which should be resolved under the relevant resolutions of United Nations. A police constable of Special Operations Group was killed and a civilian injured in an attack on a patrol party at Khudwani in Arwan area of Islamabad district, today.
