Miserable life of a Highway Truck Driver : There is hardly any thing which does not involve transportation to reach us. The Food Grain/ Fruits / Meat/ Fishes and other various finished items are being transported through the Public Goods Carrier only and our Brave Truck Drivers have a major to play in it. The Drivers drive miles and miles in all the weathers to ensure that the goods consigned reach us in the normal specified time. Hats off to them But these Pilots lead a very miserable life ; they don’t have any proper time for their food/ sleep and rest. At times they take risk to run the Trucks with the mechanical faults and worn out tyre even. Months together they don’t visit their families and indulge into vulnerable diseases to satisfy their biological needs . Some of them have a separate set up home / family at a Town other than his Home Town where they very often visit ¾ times a year. Normally the drop outs from the School or from the poor families join the profession primarily as a Cleaner and later learn driving to be called a Truck Driver. They drive 400 odd Kms per day to cover the loss time during the day due to the Close entry in the big towns and ensure that the consignment reaches in time, even taking risk at times with overloaded Truck and poor maintenance . These Drivers are always at the mercy of Dabhas en route where they visit often and are served every thing even on credit. Rather Dhaba Owners / workers become very friendly . But our Police en route don’t have mercy on their miserable condition but are always in the look out to grave money from them under some pretext or the other. What a unjustified action of our Police to harass them for nothing in stead of helping . We salute these Truck Drivers ! Appriciation by Bimal Kr. Srivastava
