Misguided Forest Service regulations are apparently seeking to require photography permits in wilderness areas. Talk about bureaucratic excess! When one considers the role that photography and visual representation more generally have played in the long history of American wilderness protection from Yellowstone forward--I would argue that the 1964 Act itself is almost inconceivable without the images that helped persuade Americans to protect the nations most extraordinary and beautiful public lands as their national birthright--its hard to imagine what the authors of this regulation imagine they could possibly be accomplishing with it. bit.ly/1mVRYaf (With thanks to William Souder for posting this story.)
