Mist On The Mountains, Southwest Virginia is the first in a series of 3 coffee table book projects and covers the land and landmarks of the 17 counties that represent southwest Virginia. More than half of the images for this book have already been made and the remainder will be shot over the course of the next 90 days. The second project will be images of the Southern Appalachians from the Mason-Dixon line down to the Carolinas (encompassing Virginia, West Virginia, eastern Kentucky, east Tennessee and Western North Carolina) and the third will be the biggest project of all; The Great Smoky Mountain National Park. I have been shooting images there for many years and they were the inspiration for me to go to college at age 36 for a proper education in photography. It was my goal to do a book on the Great Smoky Mountains when I graduated from college, but like many people, I got caught up in making a living rather than living my life. The death of my daughter showed me in no uncertain terms that we are not promised tomorrow, next week or next year. I will be 60 at the end of this year and the time has come for me to make this dream happen. This project has reached 11% funding, but, with only 4 1/2 days left, it wont happen unless we reach 100%.
