Mitch McConnell will almost certainly win today’s GOP primary in Kentucky. That win -- along with other primaries in Idaho, Oregon, and Georgia -- will be seen as a signal defeat for the Tea Party and a victory for politically pragmatic Republicans. Baloney. The Tea Party has succeeded in pushing incumbents further to the right, which has been its aim all along. And far from marking a final showdown, this years Republican primaries mark only temporary gains for the GOPs plutocrats (the big business and Wall Street wing of the GOP, whose money has been funneled through the U.S. Chamber of Commerce among other front groups), over the oligarchs (the billionaire wing of the GOP, whose money has been funneled through the Club for Growth, FreedomWorks, and Americans For Prosperity, among others). Since the oligarchs have unlimited funds, the fight has really has just begun.
