Mitchell -- Hi, my name is Steve Montgomery, and I am the State Director for the Convention of States project here in Oklahoma. I want to personally thank you for signing our petition and supporting our effort. It is no secret that Washington is broke. Elections can no longer right the ship because the government itself, or the system, is broken. It no longer functions as the government designed by our founders; yes the Constitution is followed in this country, but as interpreted, not as intended. When our founders declared independence, they said ...that whenever any form of government becomes destructive to these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or abolish it... Some will say that the time has come to abolish this government, but that is not the only remedy. We have the power and the authority to alter the government and that is our first and best option. We need to use the Constitutional remedy provided by our founders. They knew that at some point, the national government would exceed it mandate and usurp powers not given to it by the Constitution. They ensured that the States would always have the ability, though Article 5, to amend the Constitution so that when the national governments interpretation of the Constitution became destructive to these ends, the States could plainly alter those interpretations so that the original intent would be preserved. In February of 2015, the legislative session begins. Bills will be presented in the House and the Senate resolving that Oklahoma is calling for an Article 5 convention. We need your help to make this happen. Here is what you can do: 1. Educate yourself - our website (conventionofstates) has a lot of information to help you with this 2. Tell your Rep and Senator that you want them to vote for our bill 3. Tell 5 friends and get them to sign the petition. 4. Volunteer - we are recruiting District Captains, Regional Captains, and other State leadership positions Power in any government is only by the consent of the people.
