Mi’kmaw Native Friendship Centre Title: GED Prep Instructor Start Date: November 10, 2014 End Date: May 11, 2015 Length: 26 Weeks Rate of Pay: $30.00/hour for 6 hours a week Summary The GED Prep Instructor is responsible for assisting students with the comprehension of the application of various concepts as outlined in the school curriculum, supporting the work of GED in increasing student achievement in the areas of literacy and numeracy. He or she will work with students after regular school, two evenings per week for three hours each evening. This individual will work to understand individual learning styles and craft an approach that enables each student to learn required materials and build confidence through understanding and accomplishment. Other duties will be assigned as necessary. Job Duties Assist students with comprehension and application of various learning concepts as outlined in the GED Apply teaching practices that facilitate individual comprehension. Provide moral support and encouragement. Address student questions, focusing on areas of greatest difficulty. Model and assist students with understanding and application of good study habits. Generate excitement about key concepts and areas of study. Assist with formulation of ideas for projects, reports, papers, etc. Refer student to proper support resources, as necessary. Refer disciplinary issues to the appropriate authorities as necessary. Act as a positive role model. Prepare detailed reports as required. Perform other duties as necessary. Requirements High School Diploma, G.E.D. or equivalent. Previous teaching or facilitating experience Ability to effectively interact and relate to students in a developmentally appropriate manner. Excellent interpersonal skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. High level of energy. High levels of patience. Cultural sensitivity. Excellent problem solving skills. Excellent negotiation and mediation skills. High level of attention to confidentiality. Strong working knowledge of Microsoft software, including Word, Excel, etc. Willing to participate in ongoing learning.
