Mo Chara Animal Rescue, behind the scenes. Facebook enables us to provide a snapshot of the work we do and keep everyone updated on our animals needing homes. It also allows us to post updates on rehomed animals, news of planned events, fund raising campaigns, as in Fay the greyhound, and most importantly, allows you and us to “talk”. We share the happiness and sadness that our animals, either those in the rescue or ours and yours, bring on a daily basis. Like-minded people, with a love of animals, in contact through Facebook but, behind the scene or the screen of your mobile or lapdog (sorry, laptop), lays heartache and tears. THIS IS WHY WE DO IT. Mo Chara Animal Rescue exists to improve the welfare of Irish Animals, particularly those that are abused, neglected and abandoned across Co. Tipperary. We strive to treat the animals in our care with the highest level of respect and compassion throughout their time with us. We believe that every animal deserves a loving home and a happy life and we work to ensure this for as many animals as possible through rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming. THIS IS WHO WE ARE. Mo Chara Animal Rescue is run by a committee of volunteers. Our committee members come from all lifestyles, united by one common interest - ANIMAL WELFARE! We pool our skills and resources to maximise the number of animals we help. We also try to help owners responsibly re-home pets that they can no longer look after through advice and advertisement while (when feasible) the animal remains in his/her existing home. We cooperate with other animal rescues both in Ireland and abroad to maximise the number of animals we can help together. THIS IS WHAT WE DO. When an animal comes to us we vaccinate, deflea and worm, microchip, neuter if male and spay if female. Then there is the kennel cost, food, special food if required for those undergoing surgery, overnight stays at the vets for those recovering from surgery. Follow up consultations, medications, wound changing, puppy and kitten feeding every two hours for up to 6 to 8 weeks (thank you Nikki). Training, as in the case of gorgeous Callum who had never been socialised and was dumped in a dog pound (Callum is still waiting for a home). Petrol and wear and tear on our own vehicles to collect animals from all over the county, bring to and bring back from the vets. Fostering in our own homes, the love and compassion is free. This is the unseen face of the Rescue and every one of us does it willingly and with a smile. The heartache and the reality of rescue is far more difficult to deal with, kittens and puppies dead at birth, the call that came too late for the dog or cat in a ditch. The injured and beyond repair wildlife, the ponies and horses with injuries so horrific that there is nothing that can be done to save them, they must, for their sake and to stop further suffering, be euthanised. This is the harsh and dreadful truth of rescue; it is this that causes the tears, the heartache and yes, despair. Yet, we cannot and will not give up. We must continue saving helpless and defenceless animals. We hide the tears, put on a brave face and take another step forward. THIS IS THE PROBLEM Although we do many fundraisers, we cannot always rely on the amount we make and we never make enough to cover all the expenses involved in rescuing and caring for animals. Many dogs come to us with very bad skin conditions and these dogs take extra time and medications to bring them back to health before they can be placed for adoption. Some dogs have been so badly treated it can take months of care and kindness before they too can be adopted. Some have appalling wounds, which require specialist treatment, and are expensive to treat. Some come with broken spirits and broken limbs and require extensive surgery. All these costs have to be met because we do not turn away an animal in need. Three of our most recent additions are, Fay the greyhound that is now healthy because of your generosity. Honey the German shepherd, named because she is so sweet natured, requires expensive and invasive surgery to make her well and the little Shih Tzu, Mikey, who has just undergone surgery for the removal of an eye, had part of his tail removed and his seriously matted coat clipped to the skin.. All this was caused through utter neglect, through utter lack of compassion and we must pick up the pieces of these broken animals and make them whole. The sadness, sleepless nights, the stress and the worry are part of running a rescue. We all know and accept this and cope in our various ways. The rewards are enormous, uplifting and joyous, healthy animals, happy and content in their new homes. However, our funds are at such a low ebb that we are close to breaking point. THIS IS WHAT WE NEED. We desperately need your help and we are not too proud to beg on behalf of the animals. With such a high vets bill we find ourselves sadly unable to provide further treatment for Honey and Mikey, whilst caring for the numerous others in our rescue. Please can you help, no amount is too small, the price of a coffee, a sandwich, a drink, a bag of crisps, whatever you can afford we will be so happy to receive. You can help now, use the IDONATE BUTTON at the top of this page . It is so simple to save a life today. If these were YOUR dogs, we know that you would do everything that you could to make them better. Please spread this message amongst your friends, work colleagues (start a collection) neighbours, family and anyone you know who may help. We need your support today.
