MoESD LAUNCHES TOLL-FREE ANTI-CORRUPTION LINE The Ministry of Education and Skills Development (MoESD) has launched an anti-corruption toll-free line, in an effort to eliminate corruption and guarantee corrupt free environment within the ministry. Assistant Minister of MoESD, Mr Patrick Masimolole said at the launch in Gaborone on Thursday that the ministry saw it fit to come up with the idea of toll-free line as part of its initiative packages through which corrupt inclined behaviours and practices could be reported. He said in its full usage, the anti corruption toll-free facility of 0800 600 990 would benefit stakeholders to report any form of corruption. Mr Masimolole said through the use of the toll-free line, the public should feel free to report incidents such as ghosts accounts created by officers to defraud government thousands of Pula. He said it had been observed in the management of education system that there was a variety of instances of distortion in the use of resources, appointment, deployment and payment of teachers, ghosts teachers, distribution of learning materials and fraud. Mr Masimolole said his ministry was also bedeviled by corrupt practices such as embezzlement of public resources, bribery, extortion and fraud. He called for every individual to guard with jealously against misappropriation of national resources by heartless individuals for their personal gains. “I want to warn such officers that incidents of embezzlement should be a thing of the past and we will embark on aggressive anti-corruption efforts to ensure that our vision of corrupt free ministry is achieved,” he said. Meanwhile, deputy permanent secretary corporate affairs, Ms Nnosang Mhutsiwa said MoESD was critical in the development of the country as the ministry responsible for developing human resource that would be globally competitive, hence the launch of the tollfree line was relevant. She said the ministry had also seen the need to incorporate anti-corruption lessons in schools syllabi from primary school level. (BOPA)
