MoNique, born Monique Angela Jackson on December 11, 1967, is a popular, talented, and vivacious comedienne and actress. MoNique is a native of Baltimore, Maryland. Before beginning her career in the entertainment industry, MoNique was employed as a telephone operator. She began her career in comedy after a performance at an open mic comedy show in her hometown. MoNique is especially remembered for her starring role as Nikki on the UPN sitcom The Parkers, which was a sidequel of The Moesha Show. She later appeared at popular venues, such as, Showtime at the Apollo as a hostess and Russell Simmons Def Comedy Jam, and starred in the Queens of Comedy alongside fellow comediennes Adele Givens, Laura Hayes, and Sommore. MoNique has starred in a variety of movies, particularly, Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins, Two Can Play That Game, Phat Girlz, Half Past Dead, and Precious which she won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress, among other awards for her role in the movie. In 2009, MoNique starred in her own BET TV show, The Monique Show, and presently hosts and produces MoNiques Fat Chance, which is a beauty contest show that focuses on full figured women. Monique has received numerous awards and nominations in honor of her outstanding accomplishments in the entertainment industry.
