Modest General Sani Abacha! Those who campaigned on TV for you - TopicsExpress

Modest General Sani Abacha! Those who campaigned on TV for you stopped at who the cap fits. Daniel Kanu, YEAA, and all the yeye musicians who descended on Abuja to do a one million-man march for you knew that there are histories, stories, narratives, etc that are too sacrosanct to be defiled. So they stopped at who the cap fits. Even Ibrahim Babangida, who carried his own lunacy to the point of claiming that he sacrificed his today for our tomorrow while looting that tomorrow to build his hilltop mansion in Minna, knew that there were no-go areas in the province of delusion of grandeur. He would never have dared to touch the Mandela mystique. Today, on Nigerian TV, between perfunctory references to the Abuja carnage (Oh, it happened this morning - ages ago!) I see a flurry of ads and I hear that a straight line of greatness can be traced from Nelson Mandela to Goodluck Jonathan via Barack Obama. Apparently, no territory is too sacrosanct for all the mushrooming Jonathan forever groups invading TV with ads in this country. There goes the anti-apartheid struggle and its symbolism in a puff of Nigerian smoke. There goes the culmination of the African American civil rights struggle in a puff of Nigerian smoke. By the time these idiotic disrespecters of great historical struggles working for the Jonathan agenda reach the limit of their sick imagination, they would have told you that for two thousand years, there has existed an undemocratic idea of a Holy Trinity (Father, Son, Holy Ghost). The time is ripe to introduce a Nigerian Uncle into the picture to make it a Holy Quartet of Father, Son, Uncle, Holy Ghost... Abachas self succession campaign seems so seductively modest now.
