Modi ka PM banne ka khawab vs Azad ka Health Sector Senior Congress leader and Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare Ghulam Nabi Azad today ridiculed Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) for projecting Narendra Modi as party’s Prime Ministerial candidate saying merely by naming some one can not make him the PM. Responding to the media queries on Congress reaction to the BJP projecting Modi as PM candidate, Azad quipped; “Nam Sikandar Rekhnay Se Bakhat Sikandar Ho Nahin Sakta, (merely by naming some one Sikandar can not fetch him his stature and fortune). The union minister was in town to attend a function here at Jammu University. However, Azad preferred to skip the quarries about the PM candidate being projected by the Congress party. He said Central government has approved a plan to set up 70 medical facilities for treating cancer, diabetes and cardiovascular diseases, Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad said today. "There will be an increase in the number of patients suffering from cancer, cardiovascular diseases and diabetes in next 15 years. To deal with such diseases, we have formulated a policy to set up hospitals and cancer institutes," the minister said. "The Cabinet has approved a plan to set up 70 medical facilities," he said. "There is no cancer institute in the government sector. Only the Tatas have one institute," Azad said. "There is a huge shortage of human resources in the country and it is the highest in the world," he said. "We were first to bring in changes in the MCI Act, introduced in 1965, and its rules which resulted in increase of 75 per cent doctors in specialty and super-specialty fields (MD seats) ," he said. Azad said six new super-specialty hospitals on the lines of AIIMS were being set up in the country apart from upgradation of some hospitals to super-specialty facilities. Regarding the policy to provide medicare to new-born, he said 27 crore children would be benefited under this scheme. Earlier speaking at a health awareness programme organized by Mahavir Society for Education Research, at Zorawar Singh auditorium, Jammu University, he said India is heading towards achieving the distinction of becoming a polio free nation. “No case of polio has been detected during the last around two and a half years and if the trend continues for three consecutive years World Health Organization (WHO) will declare India as polio free,” Azad said. Similarly, he said, India is first country to introduce special scheme for the healthcare of children between 1 to 18 years age at block level. He said the scheme provides for constitution of 3 teams in each block consisting of 2 doctors and 1 pharmacist. The teams would examine children 2 times in a year and the expenditure of medicines would be borne by Government of India. He also stressed upon Health Minister of state Shabir Khan to constitute teams at the earliest.
