Modis growth-obsessed government has made it clear that nothing will be allowed to come in the way of highways, power plants, mines, dams and nuclear plants. Not the tiger, not the tribal, not even the temple or its resident gods. Now it is seeking to push through environmentally destructive projects in Indias last remaining wilderness areas by means of a sham National Board for Wildlife (NBWL) that has been constituted in violation of the Wildlife (Protection) Act. The Honble Supreme Court of India has called this into question and demanded that the government file an explanation in two weeks.
