Modisane’s column - REALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Posted on Wednesday, June 12, 2013 - 13:09 It has been a restful two weeks for us, and it is safe to say the entire management has enjoyed the short rest - we are now back with our pre-season preparations which starts next week. I know our supporters are not happy as we ended the season with no bragging rights as we won nothing in all major competitions. In consolations, let’s all look forward to a better season ahead as well as the Champions League matches, and get ready to inspire the team to do well the upcoming preseason match, The Carling Black Label Cup. We know that supporters are a bit puzzled with the recent developments that took place in the team. I am referring to the manner in which Mr Benni McCarthy left the club, which got many of us by surprise. As you all know, it is an open secret that he has retired from the game. To us, his retirement came as a shock as we were expecting his return with the rest of our playing personnel moreover, his contract still has few days to expiry. Unfortunately he took that decision without informing nor consulting us - we only heard about his permanent departure from the media. It is indeed an unfortunate situation for us and all those that loved to see him on the pitch; we bid him farewell and we wish him the best of luck in his future endeavour. Moving right along, as far as the future of players like Moeneeb Josephs, Mark Mayambela and Robyn Johannes is concerned, their contracts will end at the end of the month so we expecting them when the rest of the team returns (19 June 2013). I must however bring it to your attention that as a club, we are not going and never in our history, hold a player against his will of wanting to leave the club - and if a player doesn’t want us to exercise our right to extend or offer him a new contact, we are most definitely going to let him go. As our football norm dictates, any new player who arrives during this time, we all must welcome him with open arms as we prepare for the upcoming commitments. As far as our pre-season preparations are concerned, the entire team returns on the 18th of June 2013. Upon their arrival they will get into the thick of things because they will be preparing for both Champions league and Carling Cup. Our first Champions league match is against Leopards of Brazzaville on the 20th July followed by the Carling Black Label Cup on the 27th July 2013. These two matches will be an opportunity for us to quickly restore our dented pride. In part and short, we take this opportunity to convey our message of support to the Nelson Mandela family during these trying and hard times – I want to wish our former statesman Nelson "Rolilhahla" Mandela a speedy recovery. We take this opportunity to pray alongside his family. We further say, his long walk to freedom will never be forgotten. We also pray that he soon recovers and continues being a true legend of Mzansi. As for the rest of us, note that our Champions league match tickets are not yet on sale however, as soon as CAF gives the go ahead in writing, then we will notify all football lovers so that they can all go purchase their tickets in advance. I will pause here for today. Mickey Modisane.
