Molly does an automatic check-in! We have practised coming back and walking near/behind me while we go round a blind corner a handful of times she offered it automatically today for the first time. Automatic means I dont need to cue her to look back to me (by calling her name), the environment/situation itself is the cue. Check-ins (your dog looking to you occasionally when you are out and about to check which way you are going or if there are any treats/toys/fun games on offer!) are one of my favourite automatic behaviours to train for as well as the click the trigger game. I use click the trigger to condition my dogs to come to me to get a treat when they spot another dog coming (that is the cue) and then I decide whether to release them to greet or not. I still reward automatic behaviour intermittently to keep the behaviour strong :)
