Momblog: Abandonment is a matter of semantics. I had to stop at moms house today because she had called last night that her TV wasnt working. It was working when I got there so she asked if I could take her for a ride to get out of the house because she was bored. There was no specific destination or purpose other than to get out of the house so we went in to town and I waited for mom to tell me where she wanted to stop. That destination was Big Lots because she just wanted to wander through the store. I remained in the car because there was nothing I needed or wanted to see in there and I reclined the seat to take a nap. This was a bit of an experiment because when mom normally goes shopping I stay with her since she easily gets lost in the store and doesnt remember what aisles she has be down. After quite a bit of time and she hadnt come back I went into the store to see how much longer she would be. Mom was nowhere to be found. I checked in all the other stores in the strip mall and event he diner next door to see if she had gone in there for lunch. Nothing. At this point I realized that I had forgotten my cell phone at home and I knew that mom would call when she couldnt find me. After one more run through the store I had to race home to get my phone and found 4 messages waiting. The first 2 where the sounds of breathing and muttering with no message left. The 3rd was my brother wondering what was going on because he had gotten a call from mom that I had abandoned her in town. I started to call moms cell phone when it rang through with her home phone number. She had taken a taxi home and wanted to vent about being abandoned, forcing her to pay $25 in cab fees. Since she didnt remember where I had parked (right in front of the store in plain sight) she figured I had left her there. My brother and I were just amazed that mom was actually able to call a taxi for a ride; I was afraid she had taken off down the road on foot in her confusion. Knowing this maybe I can abandon her more often since she obviously knows her address. :)
