Moment of Beauty: As in so many occasions, it is the eye contact - TopicsExpress

Moment of Beauty: As in so many occasions, it is the eye contact that makes the difference. Now I am not a dog owner, and it is a coincidence that I recently walked my neighbors dog when they went into Boston for a well needed overnight getaway having asked if I could do the morning ritual of feed and walk their 13 yr old beagle. It was a cold morning with glazed sidewalks the sunshine had not yet hit, and of course the dog felt the need to stop at every snowbank to sniff and mark! We got safely around the block with all missions accomplished. So I have an appreciation for what dog owners and walkers do. The other day, I was, instead a driver with the challenge of a snowy ride home. Now I know that even on the best of days with optimal conditions, I am obligated in Massachusetts to yield to the pedestrian, and as I approached an intersection with challenges of pulling out into busier traffic, there was a pedestrian on each side of the street who would be crossing in front of me and passing each other. One just assumed I would do the right thing and took off as if I wasnt even there. But the woman who had a dog on a leash, looked not just my way, but right AT me, smiled and saw me nod with her right of way. I would have done it anyway, but her acknowledgement of me made me happy to do it! For an instant, in an unexpected encounter, souls do touch through the window of the eyes.
