Moments that change my life ….. words that touch my heart… I work in the health care field and I have seen some heartbreaking and devastating things…..things that I can’t change. Sometimes the only thing that I can do is to hold a hand when someone is scared, lend an ear to listen, take the time to remember that what they are facing is difficult, and offer a prayer on their behalf. Whether or not this helps them or gives them some peace, I try to give them what I would need if I were in their shoes…… one day, I will be. Every patient is somebody’s mother, father, daughter, son, sister, brother, grandmother, grandfather, friend……… and I try to remember this when they are in “my hands.” This is what I give to them……. This is what they give to me……. Words that touch my heart…… and moments of clarity …… to hear the words uttered from their mouths that remind me of what life is all about….. these words, in particular , that have been etched into my heart as someone was facing their final chapter…… “I’ve had a great life. I am ready to go.” Everyday I think of these words and the message that they carry……. And I, too, want to utter those same words when I take my final bow…… Life is precious. Make it great. ☺
