Momo is learning to sit when we stop during a walk. The goal is - TopicsExpress

Momo is learning to sit when we stop during a walk. The goal is for her to sit next to me on left side, preferably facing forward, so she is still learning. At this stage, I am marking (clicking) and reinforcing (rewarding) the behavior, when we stop, sit on left side, but not necessarily facing forward (this is going to be the next step for Momo). Please note, I understand its preferred to walk the dog on left side, but I often let my dogs walk in about 4-feet radius around me to explore with Loose Leash Walking. What is my Cue? Am I saying anything? No. My Cue is stop and look at Momo. As I discussed in my post on June 19, Cues: Part 1 along with a wondeful article by Eileen Anderson, 16 Behavioral Cues that I Didnt Train (But are Still for Real) eileenanddogs/2014/03/22/environmental-cues-antecedents/ dogs, in general, really observe and pay attention to our postures and movements (than words). So, Cues dont have to be verbal. Please watch what Momo does when she sits on right side (I apologize my poor video-taping skill. Her first sit is on right side. And she is sitting pretty close to me.). Can you see she is trying to figure out what she is supposed to do? What am I doing meanwhile? Am I correcting her in any ways? Can you see a clicker trianed dog is a thinking dog?
