Monday, March 10, 2014 Sorry I’m late today, we had a bunch of lessons this morning that could only be taught on p-day this week, thats usually how things end up to be honest. Check out this great LDS video, featuring Kiel, Germany. Ive been there a lot, spent a day working there once, it’s very pretty. https://lds.org/prophets-and-apostles/unto-all-the-world/a-change-in-course?lang=eng&cid=HPFR030714546&im=true Today Im not wearing a jacket. Its gorgeous, but also sad since we had snow for a grand total of 5 days this year. Better than bitter winds making it impossible to talk until mid-April, I suppose. I havent seen any Easter stuff yet. I get the feeling that Germans are more into Christi Himmel Fahrt, um, Christs Ascension Day. Thatll come a little later. Everyone here is Evangelisch, which I believe is Protestant or Lutheran or a mixture of the two. A few Catholics here and there. I heard an interesting thought the other day: either the Authority of Christ has been passed down in an unbroken line on the earth since Christ and the Catholics are right, or it had to be restored and the Mormons are right. Yes, we memorized D&C 4 at the MTC, it took 20 hours or so for me. Im very very bad at memorization, but it taught some neat words. Every missionary knows the word for Sickle. Hamburg, ooh hm. Mostly I just eat at home. We had KFC, of which pictures are burning on my camera. We got a spicy bucket, it was more than a little good. We got casserole from the Jensens the other day, very cheesy. Germans love cheese. The harbor here is covered in cranes, you can spot the ocean from a mile away because of all the machinery there. So, you asked for a German joke, here you go: Warum gibts so viele Döner Läden in Deutschland? Da hier wohnen die Dönertieren. (google translate: Why there so many kebab shops in Germany? Since living here, the döner animals) Its a running gag that the big Kebab meat spits that they use to make Döners are actual, strange-shaped animals called Döners. The most interesting thing about the ward is that the Bishop will move to Flensburg this summer. There was one member who sold his house and moved into the ward building for a while way back when because the government was taking away all the church buildings, by moving in he made it a residence and they were allowed to keep it. There hasnt been a whole lot of growth recently, they all got a little disheartened when the Hamburg mission was dissolved a few years ago and they lost the APs and senior pair that used to be here. Its cool though, they have some really strong members. This week we helped some nonmembers move, there was a 50-something lady, a 30-something crazy buff guy, and a Finnish lady. The weird thing is, the older lady and the buff guy were, we suspect, in a relationship. Shudders. We met a cool guy by going through old phone contacts, he said he always wanted to come to church but the elders forgot to give him the church address, hes gonna bring his family this Sunday. Sometimes missionary work is a lot easier than we make it out to be. Thanks for the great old-school pencil sharpeners. They sharpen like a dream. The barrel is a concave, slightly skewed tunnel with a tight-impact blade that allows for atom-close shaving abilities. It applies no undue pressure to the graphite, resulting in very few broken leads. It even manages to look classy, sitting on the corner of the desk. Sie stellen mir zufrieden. dickblick/products/mobius-and-ruppert-brass-pencil-sharpeners/ Love, Elder King
