Monday, May 5th, 7:00pm Join us at Dazzle for an evening of classical music by living composers infused with melodies, harmonies or rhythms of different genres or cultures, including jazz, Cuban, middle eastern, free improvisation and even medieval music! This unique performance of chamber music will begin with the high school woodwind quintet from Denver School of the Arts, performing a piece titled Aries Tropicales by the Cuban performer/composer Paquito DRivera. Next well witness a world premiere by William Hill, Colorado Symphony Principal Timpanist, entitled Beguiling My Sad Fancy Into Smiling. This composition is based on various quotations by Edgar Allen Poe and his exploration of the wild swings in human emotion, from melancholy and rage to joy and sadness. It was written for World Beat, an amazing ensemble including Nadya Hill, vocalist/violin; Natalie Hill, violin; Evan Orman, cello; Michelle Orman, bass clarinet; and William Hill on percussion. CLICK HERE to read more about Bill Hill and World Beat. Daphne Leong from University of Colorado Boulder will perform a piece for solo piano and film by Robert Morris. The film is a Chinese landscape scroll painted in 1664. Daphne will then be joined by John Gunther, saxophone; Patrick Sutton, guitar; and Michael Tetreault, percussion in performances of two brilliant pieces by Louis Andriessen and Vineet Shende. Also on the concert is a performance of the famous Clapping Music by the legendary American composer Steve Reich. This will be one of Denvers most important and memorable evenings of chamber music, complete with the great cocktails, food and cool ambiance of Dazzle.
