Monday October 29, 1973 We got up at 7:30 this morning and packed everything up. Everybody into the truck and off the the center of the town. We wandered off in various directions to explore as Tony went off to the Algerian Embassy for the visas. Got back together again at 10:30 only to find that we would be heading back to the Botanical Gardens. Turns out that today is the first day after Ramadan (a Muslim observance of 1 month fasting from sun up to sun set.....no food, drink, smoking and some other activities) and a holiday of Eid al-Fitr (festivity of breaking fast) so nobody is working. Ramadan was the reason that when they brought us mint tea during the bargaining session at the rug factory, it was only for us infidels and not for any of them. We will all head back tomorrow to get the visas for Susan and Greg and then we will be off across the border and into Algeria. Back at the campground it was an intense round of Frisbee till dark and then supper followed by the elimination of our stash as we have been warned not to have any at the border crossing. OK in country but a big no-no across borders. Off to a great sleep before tomorrows journey.
