Monday: definitely a green as in environmental day today in Taupo. Ive attended the AGM of the Lake Taupo Protection Trust this morning and they are doing extremely well in reducing nitrogen in Lake Taupo. A joint local, regional and central government initiative and Im proud to have played my part in ensuring we get to the 20% target. I visited Wairakei Primary School and presented a cheque for $5000 with I-O NZ Environmental Fund to assist with their aquaponics project. It was very inspiring to see the amazing maze, their innovative plans for the unused school pool, the garden, the worm farm, the worm juice .....the list goes on. They achieved a silver in 2012 Enviro Schools awards and Im sure they have more awards to come. Tonight Dr Hon Nick Smith and I have a public meeting on environment and conservation issues.
