Mondays Move of the Week: Today we feature One Health Clubs Personal Trainer Saskia van der Spuy performing a Barbell Deadlift Check back next Monday for another #MoveoftheWeek The #Deadlift is perhaps the most fundamental and functional exercise of all. However, it is ESSENTIAL that proper technique is used in order to perform this lift safely and avoid injury to the back. Here are 4 key points to consider when performing a deadlift: 1. A neutral spine or solid arch must be maintained in the low back at all times. This requires a bit of practice and training for many people. 2. The core or abdominals should be as tight as possible when initiating the lift and the bar should NEVER be jerked off the ground. 3. The bar should be touching the shins at the start of the lift and stay as close as possible to the legs throughout the lift. Failure to do this significantly increases the difficulty of the lift. 4. The lift is completed when one is standing fully erect with the bar, with legs straight, shoulders back and glutes flexed hard. ow.ly/wvfNV
