Money is necessary to build a community. it is an inescapable reality. being able to come up with $10g shows dedication to the concept, initiative, focus and determination. Handing over that much to create an opportunity like this is using money as it should be used--as a tool to create opportunity--rocket fuel, the goal being to create a community outside the evil, money-centric system we are currently in.
