“Monkey Business: An exhibition on Humor” opens with a reception at the North Seattle College Art Gallery on Tuesday, September 30, at 1 pm and 5 pm. Humor is a complex animal. It has a number of uses: political, environmental or economic commentary; plumbing psychological depths; pointing out a finer frustration or irony; amplifying the artist’s voice; working through a darkness, hardship, or awkwardness; and so much more. Couching these instances in humor, using laughter or amusement, eases access to these, sometimes difficult, ideas. The 12 artists in this group show tackle humor in its different guises in a variety of ways. Included in the show are works that range in form from drawings, sculpture, paintings, comic strips or panels, prints, and personal adornment or jewelry.
