Montgomery County NY: Strong thunderstorms were hitting eastern New York for a second day,with damaging winds triggering a tornado warning for parts of Herkimer, Montgomery and Fulton counties late Thursday afternoon.The National Weather Service says a tornado was possible in a line of storms that moved through parts of Herkimer, Montgomery, and Fulton counties. Winds whipping at 85 mph were recorded before the tornado warning expired at 5:15 p.m. amid reports of large hail, lightning and damage to structures, trees and utility lines.National Grid is reporting about 1,700 customers without power in rural areas west of Johnstown and Gloversville, where the strongest winds were reported.The Albany National Weather Service will be heading to Herkimer and Montgomery counties tomorrow to survey the storm damage. They will release a statement on whether the damage was caused by straight line winds or a tornado.
