Montour Preserve is having a raptor watch this Saturday, possibly - TopicsExpress

Montour Preserve is having a raptor watch this Saturday, possibly the last one ever. It probably wont be the birdiest event (although last year we saw a decent number of local hawks and turkey vultures), but it would be nice to have a big turnout to show support for the preserves educational programs, which are being ended with Talen Energys taking over of the power plant and preserve. This includes the firing of Jon Beam who has been the naturalist at the preserve for over 20 years. Montour Preserve has been a local wildlife treasure since 1972 and it is a shame that the new company does not have the same commitment to wildlife education that PPL has had. RAPTORS & RAMBLERS Saturday, September 27 10-11:30 a.m. East Branch Recreation Area Presented by: Jon D. Beam, Senior Naturalist Birds are on the move this time of year as they make their way south to their wintering grounds. If weather conditions are just right we should catch some hawks as they pass through riding thermals or winds. The East Branch Recreation Area gives a nice view of an open sky, ridges and valley for a good opportunity to see raptors and perhaps other birds as they ramble their way through our area. Dress for the weather and bring a folding chair. Well discuss raptor identification as we sit and watch for birds.
