Montrose clinches first Foothills League title The Montrose football team clinched the first ever Foothills League title as fast as it could. The Indians ran, and even passed, their way around the Widefield defense on their way to a 46-6 league victory at home Friday night. The victory gives Montrose a 4-0 record in the league with one game remaining while all the other teams in the league have at least one loss. “It’s really special because we’re the first Foothills League champion,” senior Matt Maestas said. “We started it so we’ll hopefully keep carrying it on.” No. 3 ranked Montrose (8-1, 4-0 Foothills League) started fast against Widefield (5-4, 1-3 Foothills League). The Indians forced a quick punt on Widefield’s first possession, and then drove 82-yards and scored with a Mike Rocha 3-yard touchdown run. More strong defense got the ball back and senior Nick Foster bolted 61-yards for a touchdown a few plays later in the first quarter. Montrose would score two more times before the clock dipped under six minutes in the second quarter, building a 28-0 lead. For the full story, see Saturdays edition of the Daily Press.
