Mool Chand, the brother of a well known activist Veerji Kohli is missing since last night. He is also a trainee of Mehergarh and has been assisting Veerji in his work. He stepped out of his house to go to a medicine store across the street to get some medicine and never returned him. His mobile has been turned off. This family has come out of bondage when Veerji was young. He had taken a vow to work against this menace. Veerji took mehergarhs full leadership course in 2005 and set out to struggle against bonded labour and other abuse against his community since then in a systematic manner. he was appointed Mehergarhs regional coordinator for our program on Bonded Labour where he got more than 3000 bonded labourers freed from the feudals. In the last few years he also lead a campaign against a gang rape of a hindu girl where the whole hindu community sided with him. The atrocities of a local feudal family were brought to light and the bias of the police finally was investigated upon his insistence. For the first time in such a case five police officers were suspended due to their bias and deviousness. Getting bonded labourers free, trying to implement the anti bonded labour law of 1992, raising voice on forced conversions are crimes not to be forgiven for, especially if you are a Hindu. You should only be thankful that we Muslims have allowed you to stay in our land of the pure. On top of all this Veerji had decided to run in the upcoming local bodies election. Please dont for get that this family has already been harassed at every stage. Calling them to the police station making them wait all day for no reason. Kidnapping Veerji for several days and torturing him, not pursuing the case of his kidnappers, firing at their old car right in there street. firing at their house, getting Veerjis name in a fake murder case that happened in Nagar while he was in Hyderabad attending a human rights conference. Regardless of the fact that several known human rights activists gave witness to this fact and the police found this to be a frivolous case it has been drawn out over two years to keep him on a short leash under bail. they were receiving threats after filing nomination papers. And now his brother is missing. SHOULD WE CONTINUE WITH OUR MANTRA THAT THE OPPRESSED HAS TO RISE AND FIGHT AGAINST THE ATROCITIES. There has been an amazing rising and empowering of this community, especially among the people i have worked with. They have been more and more mature in their fight and the oppressors have been more and more brutal. My question is when will the rest of the society stand with them and show solidarity with the cause which is not just theirs but ours too.
