Moon eclipse is on tonight. You still have a couple of hours!!! There is nothing worse than having all your equipment ready, only to head outside an hour late because you forgot about daylight savings time. Here is the order of service for tonights eclipse (all in AEDT). The penumbral eclipse starts at 7:15pm. A shadow will start to appear on the Moon as the Earth starts to block some of the Suns light, but there will be no change of colour. At 8:15pm the partial eclipse begins and the Moon will slowly start turning red. From 9:25pm to 10:25pm the Moon will be in total eclipse, and the moment of greatest eclipse is at 9:55pm. After that, the eclipse will gradually fade as the Moon orbits and the Earth rotates. Partial eclipse ends at 11:35pm and the penumbral eclipse ends at 12:35am. People in Western Australia should note that because the Moon does not rise until 6:19pm, the total eclipse phase will begin almost immediately at 6:25pm. This is a good thing for photographers because the blood moon will be just above the horizon.
