It backfired in the middle east and the fruit of appeasement you are seeing today, just like in the 30s and 40s in a signifant part of the middle east from the mediterreanean up to Afghanistan. Anti semitism was openly manifested and growing from the 1920s to the 1940s - AROUND THE WORLD! The allies had great leaders, but also those same leaders SHUT the doors to the Jewish world in Europe, and yes, the USA did also. FDR, Churchill, Stalin were indeed fully informed of what the german nazis where doing to the jewish people and all who dissented politically, religiously, and economically. There was a real german underground resistance, and that resistance attempted to stop the racial hatred against the jews and the personal freedoms of thought, expression, and religion. The movement that Dietrich Boenhoeffer was part of provided full information even from the nazi government [not everyone with a nazi uniform was a real nazi but wore the uniform to eliminate the evil prevailing in that day in germany] to several church leaders in England, Sweeden, Switzerland, Rome, and that included those with the Churchill leadership, FDRs leadership. In 1948 Israel was granted, by the international community its borders to establish a state. Who come to that land to develope it? But that is what happens with a group that has had to put up with so much from everywhere in the globe: Somthing good happens. That is what is being fought today. It is despicable to me how the international community forgets the rejection it gave to the jews, who developed the Israeli Nation which includes arabs, as well as christians, muslims, jews, atheists ... you name it. If you want to see what a real ethnic mix looks like, just have israeli or jewish friends or go to where they live and you will see what harmony can look like. Yes, that decision to give the worlds jewish community a land to establish a state needs to be respected. If we recant on something that is good just to appease terrorist groups like hamas, hezbollah, fatah in the name of humanity, then we have forgotten that it is the one who uses a child or an elderly or a woman as a human shield who is barbaric; then we have forgotten the reality that in the state of Israel jew muslim christian and atheist live together in peace; then we have forgotten that a palestinian and a terrorist are not the same; then we have forgotten that a muslim and a terroris are not the same; then we have forgotten our shared guilt that we once shared by closing our doors worlwide to a group that was being exterminated just because of our ethnicity or religious background or national background and that we tried to corrected as a world community in 1948 by calling it the State of Israel. We have forgotten a lot. And my darling dear academic intellectual in this video, like we say in southwest arkansas and texas: Baby, you did a heck of a job! Were was Columbia and Harvard? In the same place giving our world the likes of the politics that today are working very hard against Israel. The UN being that forgetfull? And yes, hamas is a terrorist group that has diminished palestinians to incalculable damage, the palestinian leaders today insist on demanding from israel but not letting the world know that the palestinian leadership has subjugated the palestinian people to hamas, and the UN does not want to say that. Appeasement has never worked.
