More Questions than Answers The recent statement issued by the Ministry of Youth and Sports on the Gambia National Olympic Committee elective Congress has put more salt on the already questioned neutrality of the Ministry of Youth and Sports. As the custodian of Youth and Sports affairs in the country, we expect the Ministry of Youth and Sports to be neutral on all his dealings for the interest of Sports and Sports development. Since the commencement of the electoral process at the GNOC in February 2013, the Ministry of Youth and Sports has never condemned the wrong actions taken by the camp led by Sheriff Jammeh but has always issued condemnation on any steps taken by Mr Dibba led executive. First it was a press conference of the Ministry of Youth and Sports when Sheriff Jammeh and co filed a court Injunction at the high court to stop the GNOC congress. What we expected from the ministry of youth and Sports was a total condemnation of the court action taken by three people as it was against the rules and regulations for a sports issue to be taken to a no sports related court such as CAS. But six months after the court action no single world came from the Ministry of Youth and Sports to condemn the unnecessary court action. Secondly the Ministry of Youth and Sports in its bid to salivate loosing GNOC presidential Candidate Sheriff Jammeh again called a meeting of all Sporting Associations in The Country with the aim of putting aside both the National Sports Council Act and the GNOC Constitution by allowing unqualified Associations to vote for GNOC Election and later those associations can regularize their statues. It will be funny if the Independence Electoral Commission (IEC) asked all Gambians to come and vote for the Presidential and National Assembly elections and later got registered for voters’ Card. It is paramount before anybody can vote in any election there are primary rules that need to be observed. Thirdly the recent statement on the 30 days notice has fuelled the minds of many as Gambians in Sports are aware that the GNOC electoral process started back in February and if it was not the court injunction, elections could have been history. Please Ministry of Youth and Sports, your neutrality is paramount in the development of Gambian Sports. So take note.
