More Russians coming to Western Visayas August 14, 2013, Wednesday -Russian tourists found the natural attractions in Western Visayas very appealing and they are coming to the region in droves. Figures of the Department of Tourism Region 6 (DOT-6) showed that Russians placed sixth in the region’s top 10 tourist markets in 2012. Last year, 14,789 Russian visitors arrived in Aklan; 2,275, in Bacolod City; 159, in Iloilo City; 94, in Negros Occidental; 34, in Guimaras; 23 in Capiz; and 14, in Antique. In the first seven months of 2013, Russian arrivals increased to 10,813 with the province of Aklan still having the bulk of Russian tourists attracted to its tourism crown jewel, Boracay Island. The DOT-6 report for 2012 showed that foreign arrivals in the region is dominated by the Koreans with 209,795 arrivals. It is followed by Taiwan with 94,407; China, 87,594; United States, 30,606; Australia, 17,869; Russia, 17,388; Japan, 13,126; Germany, 12,838; United Kingdom, 10,670; and Hongkong, 8,938. A total of 3.009 million tourist arrivals were registered in 2012 in Western Visayas. The regional arrivals are composed of 606,521 foreign, 2,434,328 domestic and 58,169 overseas Filipinos. The DOT-6 has projected 3,192,328 tourist arrivals in 2013; 3,671,176, in 2014; 4,221,854, in 2015; and 4,855,131, in 2016.(PNA)
