More Sound truth.... a weekly devotional from the radio ministry of Pastor Malcolm The Sword of the Spirit-The Word Every one of the builders had his sword girded at his side as he built. Nehemiah 4:18 Willing to work and ready for battle. - that should be the description of every believer. We have been given a mighty sword,... the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. (Eph. 6:17) With it we can strike down all doubt, fear, and discouragement. When temptation comes we must remember the words of Jesus when He fought off the Tempter saying, Man shall not live by bread alone, But by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God. (Matt 4:4) We are in a battle with an enemy that never gives up and is always opposing the work of God. Spiritual warfare is fought by wielding the mighty sword of the Spirit. The wooden sword of mans philosophy is of no use in this spiritual battle. Only the sharp two-edge sword that is the Word of God is effective against this enemy. Scripture commands us to take up this sword but nowhere are we told to lay it down. It is to be used not displayed like a museum exhibit. The Word of God is of no use sitting on a shelf. It must be believed, studied and used by every one of us. thank God for His Word! There are some believers in this world that have to paste together fragments of smuggled Scripture to be able to read the Word of God! They do not enjoy the access to the Bibles so common in our land. the Word of God is provided for us but we have to pick it up and use it - all of it. As we build up our lives in Christ we must remain ready to fight. It is as if we carry a trowel and a sword with both willingness to work and a readiness for battle.
