More common questions and helpful information if you are considering adoptuion. Now that the bulldog is ready to be adopted, will I have many expenses with the bully? Rescue bulldogs are dogs that are going to need ongoing vet care, and a lot of love and training from their new families. We only adopt to homes that truly want to rescue a homeless bulldog. If you are looking to Bulldog Rescue to find an “inexpensive” bulldog, this is not the place for you. Are bulldogs expensive when it comes to veterinarian care? Generally speaking, bulldogs can be more expensive than most breeds. They inherently have more medical issues than other types of dogs. Because bulldogs are very sensitive to anesthesia and can suffer a number of respiratory ailments, you will need to find a vet with experience with the breed. Do you ever get in puppies or very young bulldogs? Generally, no. Rescue dogs on average are between 2 and 10 years old, and sometimes even older. The only time we may get in puppies is if they are special needs bulldogs. I want a bulldog to take on hikes and go running with me. Can bulldogs do that? Generally not. Because of their unusual physique, with their short legs, narrow windpipe, and squashed face, they dont do good with vigorous aerobic activity. That is not to say that they wouldnt love a nice leisurely walk to smell the neighborhood. Just keep in mind that bulldogs can overheat very easily. Bulldogs would much rather curl up on the couch with you and watch TV. Wed love to adopt a bulldog, but dont want too much hassle when it comes to care and maintenance. Do you get in bulldogs that are easy to care for? It depends on your definition of “easy to care for”. Most bulldogs need daily care including cleaning their wrinkles and cleaning the pocket under their tail. Many of the rescue bulldogs need additional daily care such as eye drops and or medications. I hear that bulldogs have some issues with snoring and um.....farting. Is this true? Bulldogs snore. A lot. Snoring is normal for the bulldog and is caused by the elongated soft palate characteristic of the breed and, because of the shape of their face, they take in a lot of air when eating and drinking, hence the farting which you will grow to love too ! Oh, did we mention the slobber..... Will our rescue bulldog come to love us too? Bulldogs are living, sentient beings who are devoted to their owners. They need plenty of human companionship and pine away without it. Bulldogs want nothing more than to be loved and love in return.==
