More letters ! Mr. Greg Reimer BC Hydro - Meter Choices Program PO Box 9530 Stn Terminal Vancouver, BC V6B 4G8 greg.reimer@bchydro September 21, 2013 Dear Mr Reimer, re: our family’s continuing decision to retain our analog meter and our expectations to continue paying the same fees as other British Columbians for our power We have received your letter regarding "options and fees". Over the past many months we have been in communication with your staff regarding smart meters and had many conversations and emails. I have told them that I am a public health researcher and have serious concerns about accepting a smart meter in our home. We continue to opt for the old analog meter. Our family will not accept a smart meter. We also believe that an opt-out fee is unreasonable. All British Columbians have the rights of privacy and autonomy in their own homes. By imposing high fees for us to exercise our rights and freedoms, BC Hydro is crossing an important ethical line. Those whose ability to pay is compromised will be intimidated into capitulation to the smart meter. I am also aware that a class action lawsuit has been launched on this matter. Once again, I repeat that we will not accept a smart meter and expect that you will remove the fee for us to do so. Yours in Health, Cc Bill Bennett, [email protected] BCUC, Commission.secretary@BCUC David Eby, Vancouver Point Grey MLA dave.eby@gmail; [email protected] ________________________________________ To: greg.reimer@bchydro Cc: [email protected] ; Commission.secretary@BCUC ; [email protected] ; The Goat Newspaper Sent: Thursday, September 19, 2013 9:22 PM Subject: Meter Choices Program September 19, 2013 To: BC Hydro Re: Your letter—Meter Choices Program None of the choices in your letter are acceptable. We must be allowed to retain our analog meters without any additional charge of any kind. Your letter’s attempt to make me think the analog meter charges you threaten to apply to my account are legitimate is belied by the fact that the charges you threaten me with have not been approved by the BC Utilities Commission. I am mystified by the statement in your letter: “These costs offset the expense of adding infrastructure to ensure BC Hydro’s electricity grid works as planned.” What specifically does that mean? There is no justification for charging us to read our analog meters. Our current electricity rates include the cost of meter reading already. Alternatively, we can phone or e-mail you our meter reading monthly. We can e-mail you a digital photo of our meter once a year to prove we are not lying about our meter reading. Then you can credit us for the cost of meter reading, since we will be doing it ourselves and saving BC Hydro the cost of meter reading (to repeat, the cost of meter reading is currently included in the cost of electricity). Those of us who do not want a smart meter are saving BC Hydro money. The cost of the “smart meter” to begin with (said to be $550), and the need to replace “smart meters” much more often than analog meters. We should be getting a rebate on our monthly bill, not an additional charge. It is outrageous to suggest we pay a monthly fee to avoid being exposed to harmful radiation from a “smart meter”. My second question to you: Do you have liability insurance that covers BC Hydro for damage done to customers by smart meters? If so, is your insurance company aware of the rapidly accumulating evidence that radiation of this kind damages those exposed to it? Perhaps you will kindly provide me with the name and address of your insurance company so that I can discuss this matter with them. I have great respect for my MLA, Ms. Shirley Bond, and strongly believe that when she becomes aware of what you are threatening to do she will add her voice to mine in opposing your threatened fees. _________________________________ just sent this to the BCUC Dear Sir, Far to many citizens of this once great province are not willing to have a smart meter installed on their private property. There are many reasons for this refusal and each of them are valid! The complete Smart Meter program was pushed down our throats by the Liberal government without oversight by the BC Utilities Commission or any public consultation. It becomes clearer every day that this was a grave error. I urge you to "rein in" the out of control monster that is BC Hydro and deny them the extortion fees they have tried to slap on all the remaining homes who have refused the smart meter. Please, do the job you have been tasked without further interference from the Liberals or BC Hydro.
