More money for a broken system. The bill fixes nothing... It throws more $$ at an inadequate system that cant handle todays needs. It creates an out of network opportunity for veterans to be seen if you live too far from a VA ... But who determines too far? What NEW paperwork do we fill out now to get these new benefits? Did they stop the bonus and over time pay for VA Employees who clearly were fraudulently claiming to have worked/cleared cases and it was in fact a lie? See, as a Veteran who has in fact fought with the VA and lost a few battles (but won MY war) I can tell you all this looks good on paper. But this does NOT fix: 1. Lack of QUALIFIED mental health staff for appointment and walk ins at the VA. 2. Lack of adequate pay to KEEP a consistent mental health staff so vets arent talking to strangers every time they go get seen. 3. The still ridiculous backlog of initial claims... And MOUNTAINS of claim disputes .... My post is not political, this problem has passed through both a Republican and Democratic Presidency. Fact is America is ill equipped to serve those who answer the call to fight for those who choose not to so that drafts are avoided and we can all sleep at night not knowing the true dangers that lie outside our borders. To FIX the problem is to contract the likes of true American entrepreneurs (Gates Foundation for example) and allow them to overhaul the 1960s style system. But it will never happen... Because they (the VA) is allowed to police themselves, theyre allowed to hire their own and do as they wish with little to no oversight. I know plenty of great, amazing and hard working people at the VA.... But we also know that they are far and few and not the standard being hired and kept at the VA.... #truth #fixveteranshospitals
