More musing about Waystation 101. It takes about five hours of work a day to maintain the facility with 10-12 dogs. Three in the morning, two or fewer at night. If you pay $10 an hour for help, with ten dogs here, fives hours of work equates to half an hour a dog, or $5 in labor costs alone. Its not a completely direct relationship, but pretty close. Thats not counting food (thankfully, folks normally donate enough, but not always), supplies (ditto), electricity (watts up with that?) etc etc etc. Dogs not on scholarship generally pay $5/day. That may cover the direct labor costs, but not the incremental other costs. Yet much past that rate, it becomes difficult for rescues to afford. And volunteer help isnt always available and dependable. Just sharing some insight into the constant fundraisers and requests for food and money donations. Pretty much everyone here right now is on scholarship.
