More news on Medicare and my Moms hospital etc. stay...I just heard what to me sounds ridiculous (I really have a choice word...) keep it clean...according to what my Moms surgeon says...Medicare Guidelines is what he and the hospital followed (?) forget that she is almost 96 (June 21 is her birthday) she had to have stitches on her head and had a 5 plus hour surgery to pin her arm which broke in 3 pieces...this did not require Moms stay at the hospital after surgery nor did it require her to go to rehabilitation. After all this type of surgery is done as an outpatient. So even thought this is no young chick, lives alone, breaks her right arm, has a hole in her head and is sedated for pain etc.can go home and be cared for by family members. None of us trained to take care of someone in her condition. Forget the fact that she has been paying for part B and has United Healthcare etc. for the past several years and has not really been hospitalized for any serious injury or anything in the past...WTF...is this country coming to? We are all going to be there one day...Seniors...that is and no one gives a damn? Today I called the Onbudsman who told me to call Hicap who then told me to call Medicare QIO who then told me call...someone I cant remember who she was or who she worked for? Then I again called the main guy at HICAP who has yet to call me back. Most of these folks work until 4.00 PM ...no one wants to take responsability and they just pass you on and on and on...Who pays all of these folks? What are they really supposed to do? I then called Memorial Hospital again and spoke to someone in the billing department who then told me I had to speak with someone in some other department. Have left messages, sent emails and guess what? You guessed it, no response? This is Frustrating, time consuming and my blood preassure is probably sky rocketing... I almost yelled at a couple of the folks today because they were so uninterested in what I wanted to say, they did not have time to hear me out so they just passed me on to yet another dumbo. I understand this is not un-usual. Also know that there are guidelines which also need to take into consideration the patients age, condition, etc. etc. not a cookie cutter. The surgeon says, unless you break your hip you are not a real patient? My words, my interpretration of what I heard. WTF...anyone out there expeirenced this non sense and if so what did you have to do?
