More sad news to report to you, Italian guitarist, singer and songwriter Pino Daniele has died this evening of a heart failure. Born in Naples, Italy in 1955, and raised in the Sanita neighborhood (one of its most dangerous and crime ridden areas), Pino Daniele poured his soul and the love of his city into his music. From his very first album Terra Mia (My Land) in 1977, he was a champion of the people, telling of their despair and their hopes for Napoli, a city which was also home to the Camorra organized crime group. Pino Daniele brought the poverty and injustice of Naples to light through his music and became one of Italys most popular singer songwriters. Although Pino Danieles family could never afford music lessons for him, the self-taught guitarist went on to play with many of the greats of his day, Eric Clapton, Richie Havens, Pat Metheny, Al Di Meola and Chick Corea. Daniele became known for his adventurous tastes in music, and was known for combining the heavily melodic tradition of his native Naples with jazz, pop, and blues ...even touching on Middle Eastern music at times. Today, the Mayor of Naples, Luigi de Magistris, ordered that flags on all city buildings be flown at half-mast. Today, Naples was a city in mourning for its favorite son, Pino Daniele, the man who took their story to the world, a man whose voice was loved by millions. Here, Pino Daniele with Al Di Meola, playing guitar and singing as he often did in English, Italian and the Neapolitan dialect, The Infinite Desire ~
