More stupid talk about impeachment seems to reign, now on both sides of the aisle - GOPers who fantasize about impeaching Obama as if they were trying to kill Sauron and people on the left who are prating about using impeachment against the next GOP president because turnabout is fair play. Come on. Why should we abuse the impeachment process just because the GOP seeks to abuse the impeachment process? What on earth are the GOP doing to our reasoning, if people think that impeachment is nothing more than turnabout is fair play? That is not only nonsense on stilts -- it is a profound offense to the Constitution, as bad as that committed by those who want to impeach Obama and who wanted to impeach Clinton. Besides, the numbers required to impeach, convict, and remove from office work against impeachment of a GOP president just as they work against impeachment of a Democratic president. You need a majority of the House to impeach, but a 2/3 majority of the Senate to convict and remove from office. Look at the House and Senate today, and most projections of the House and Senate after the midterm elections, and do the math. The ONLY way to launch a successful impeachment effort is to make it a BIPARTISAN impeachment effort. That was the lesson of Nixons fall in 1974. So stop this nonsense and grow up, everyone on both sides of the aisle who is prating about impeachment -- the GOPers who want to get Obama and those on my side of the aisle who now want to threaten any GOP president with impeachment. In 2007, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid had the good sense to take impeachment off the table -- because they could count, and because they realized that even if we could impeach, convict, and remove Bush II, wed be left with President Cheney. In 2014-2017, even if the GOP could impeach, convict, and remove Obama from office, which they cant because they dont have the votes and wont have the votes, theyd have President Biden.
