More taxes, more government. Versus less taxes, and less government. Unless you are a government employee, the answer to this simple financial riddle is pretty obvious. Most of us would choose the latter. Not so in Nassau County. In fact, several county commissioners and their financial staffers are promoting a tax-and-spend approach for this year -- and they are unabashed about it. Almost proud of it. They want new buildings and new vehicles and new capital projects. Of course, they contend it is in the best interests of the county, its future, and its people. And if they dont get their way, you as a resident will be unsafe or under-serviced. Weve watched this movie and its sequel before. Its plot is trite and predictable. In other words, it is an antithesis of a John Grisham novel. (Grisham is a new resident, and new taxpayer.)/Steves Marketplace 5-5-14
