More than four years after Mohamedou Ould Slahi was imprisoned, he appeared before a panel of military officers at Guantánamo Bay and was asked: where would you like to go, if we set you free? The transcript of the hearing shows that Slahi answered in English. It is his fourth language, but one that he has had plenty of time to master since 9/11, during his endless world tour of detention without trial, interrogation and torture.
